Transfer Files at Light Speed with Flip

Transfer Files at Light Speed with Frip

Now you can transfer your files at light speed with unlimited size using Flip. This new application is using peer-to-peer communications to reinvent the way users can share files privately across the Internet.

If you have faced issues transferring very large files, you should definitely check out this application.

Few days back a friend of mine invited me to use Flip so that I can send him some videos we made last month. I though I’d give it a try.

I signed up Flip and as soon I dragged my videos in the app, I was amazed how fast the files were uploaded. I ended up sending 10 Gigabytes in less than 20 minutes.

At this point, as a programmer, I decided to reach out to Flip’s founder, Jacopo Daeli, and ask him a few questions about his application.

How Flip is different from competitors such as Dropbox or Box?

Flip uses a custom peer-to-peer technology that enables users to send files securely across the web. Since files are never stored on the Flip server, the app guarantees maximum security while transferring your files. In addition, every connection is made over SSL encryption, which means that only the sender and the receiver can decrypt these files.

Moreover, using peer-to-peer connections in Flip is faster compared to competitors and you can transfer files without having size constraints. It will simply work.

Which feature you think is very useful in Flip?

I built Flip on top of a smart recovery algorithm that ensures your files to be delivered no matter what. In other words, it doesn’t matter if you disconnect from the Internet. Your files will be sent.

Lastly, Flip supports sending files with email addresses. You simply add a recipient’s email address and the files will be emailed to them. This allows users to send files to others that haven’t signed up to Flip yet.

What’s coming next?

I planned to create a “plugin” to help users receive files directly within Dropbox, Google Drive and Amazon S3. I would also like to give the possibility for users to manage all their files across the cloud storage services in one simple interface, and make them easy to share.
